About Bed Linens

Your Buyer's Guide mentions "plain weave" and "ring-spun" cotton, two things that I always look for in sheets and never find anymore. This makes me want to order a set right this minute, but I'm concerned about the high thread count. My experience is that the higher the thread count, the heavier the sheet. How much does your Queen Flat 500-tc sheet weigh?
Dear Kathleen,

Our PerfectCale bed linens are woven with ultra thin (thus ultra strong and extremely fine) yarn made from 100% Pima cotton, which is required to achieve a true 500 thread count percale, or plain woven sheeting fabric.

Because of the aforementioned, our bed linens, unlike most others that claim a high thread count, are not heavy.

I suggest you order a free fabric swatch card through our web site so you can actually feel our incomparable PerfectCale sheeting fabric.

Thank you for your interest in Thomas Lee.

Tom M.
Where can I find general information on bed sheets and sheet construction?
We have included detailed information on sheets and sheet construction on our website.
Please see “The Thomas Lee Difference” at http://www.thomasleeltd.com/difference.cfm.
I want to buy American. Where can I find US made home textile products?
Unfortunately the once proud US home textile manufacturing industry no longer exists, having fallen victim to the forces of globalization and our government’s foreign trade policies. Tom and Lee, the owners of Thomas Lee, spent most of their careers in the US home textile industry, and Tom served as president of two of the largest, West Point Pepperell and Dan River. As late as 2005 Dan River was weaving 26 million yards of sheeting fabric every week. Today, virtually all sheets sold in the United States are manufactured abroad.

Thomas Lee does use US grown cotton in our sheets. Our PerfectCale® bed linens are made from 100% US grown Pima cotton, which is sent to India where our bed linens are manufactured. We make them in India, as it is the only place in the world that can, or will, produce the quality we demand.
What do I need to know about thread count in bed sheets?
A thread count of around 500 threads per square inch of fabric is about the highest achievable using single ply yarn. Other high thread count sheets may use yarns that are plied together before weaving. This questionable practice results in not only a misleading overstatement of actual thread count, but creates a fabric made with lower quality yarn. The United States Federal Trade Commission has issued an opinion that this practice likely deceives consumers. In fact sheets that claim thread counts of 1000 are generally made with yarn that has been plied as many as 4 TIMES. The real thread count is actually 250, half that of Thomas Lee bed linens. Like sateen weaves, bed linens made with plied yarn should be avoided. Thomas Lee 100% Pima cotton sheets and bed linens are woven from the world's finest long-staple cotton, single ply yarn made using the highest quality traditional ring spun process, and woven 500 threads to the square inch. We believe there is no finer sheet available at any price.
What is sateen?
You will see a lot of sateen sheets in the stores and on line. They are cheap to weave, consisting of four threads woven over one, so retailers can offer “high thread counts” at lower price points. Sateen sheets have “curb appeal” to some customers. They have a very silky, satiny feel out of the package, but the nice appearance is an illusion. They do not hold up well, and after a few launderings the threads can begin to fray, causing the fabric to pill and take on a limp, raggy and coarse texture. In contrast, Thomas Lee PerfectCale® bed sheets get better and better with each laundering.
Customers searching for luxurious, all cotton sheets what will provide lasting comfort for years to come should avoid sateen. Thomas Lee will never offer a bedding product made with a sateen weave.
What is “pima” cotton?
“Pima” is a type of extra long staple cotton that is grown in the southwestern United States. Pima cotton is famous for the incredible lustrous, silky hand it imparts to fabrics from which it is made. Pima cotton is significantly more expensive than other cottons but it would be virtually impossible to replicate the luxurious comfort and durability of PerfectCale® bed linens using any other cotton.
What is Egyptian cotton?
Simply put, Egyptian cotton is cotton grown in Egypt. Some Egyptian cottons are high quality and capable of producing high quality textile products. Actually, however, the finest cotton in the world does not come from Egypt. The finest cotton in the world is “Pima” cotton which is grown in the southwestern United States. Cottons from Egypt can vary greatly in quality. At Thomas Lee we have found that the only cotton that consistently provides the quality we need for our PerfectCale bedlinens is US grown Pima cotton.
What is a duvet cover?
A duvet cover is basically a comforter cover, used to protect your comforter and avoid the need to launder the comforter itself. Thomas Lee duvet covers have a number of outstanding features, such as button closures, and are designed to provide an excellent fit with our down and down alternative comforters.
Should I launder my new sheets before I use them the first time?
While not absolutely necessary, we think it is a good idea to launder any new textile product before use.

About Our Products

How can I contact you by phone to speak personally with someone about your products?
Simply click on the "Contact Us" menu button, provide your phone number and when best to try to reach you, and we will call you.
Do you have any sheets in twin sizes? If not, where can I find something that is as close to your quality as possible? Thanks.
We do not currently offer twin sizes in our PerfectCale® line of 100% Pima cotton bedding. We do offer standard twin sheets in bamboo. We really cannot recommend a substitute or alternative for our PerfectCale bed linens. We think they are the finest available at any price.
Are your sheets made of "combed cotton"?
Thomas Lee PerfectCale bed linens are made using 100% US grown Pima cotton. Cotton quality is determined by the staple length of the actual cotton fiber. The longer the staple length, the finer and stronger the cotton. Pima cotton has the highest staple length and is the only quality suitable to make our 500 thread count PerfectCale® bed linens.
Combing is a old manufacturing process that was sometimes used as an extra step to remove dirt and other foreign material and very short or broken fibers before it is spun into yarn. The modern textile technology we employ incorporates this process in yarn making without the extra step of "combing".
So while we do not use the word "combed", (it is rarely used these days), the Pima cotton we use in our bed linens is processed to produce a yarn that surpasses what was once called combed cotton.
With the tight weave are they cool enough for hot, humid climates? I live in Florida and getting to the age where I need sheets that won't get me overheated. The sheets need to breath and stay cool.
Nothing beats the absorbency 100% long staple Pima cotton, which is why Thomas Lee PerfectCale sheets feel cool and crisp in any climate. We have hundreds of satisfied customers in the Southeast and Gulf Coast states, where summers are hot and humid.
How wrinkled do these sheets get, will they need pressing?
Thomas Lee PerfectCale® fabrics are made from 100% Pima cotton fabric, which is finished naturally and without the use of harsh finishing resins. The only way to make a fabric “wrinkle free” or “wrinkle resistant” is to incorporate a “stiffer” yarn (e.g., polyester) into the fabric and/or to treat the fabric with a resin (often formaldehyde based) during the finishing process in order to impart stiffness. Unfortunately, along with the stiffness comes an unpleasant, rough “hand” or feel to the fabric and a reduction if the durability of the fabric. There is no such thing as an untreated all cotton fabric that will not wrinkle to some extent, and Thomas Lee PerfectCale® bed linens are no exception.
Wrinkling can be controlled to a significant extent by carefully following the washing instructions, including drying your PerfectCale® bed linens on permanent press setting and removing them promptly from the dryer, smoothing and folding. Whether the sheets will need pressing is a decision based on individual preference. Some of our customers do iron their sheets (although we suspect most don't), or they just iron the pillowcases, and we know of some who send their sheets to the laundry. Again, it's a matter of personal preference.
Hi: I have received the sheet swatch you mailed - thank you! I do very much like the fabric, but I'm wondering about durability over the long-haul, particularly pilling and "fuzzing". I've had so many sheets pill and/or fuzz after several months of use. Thank you
Thomas Lee PerfectCale sheets will not pill or fuzz. These phenomena occur in cheap sheets made with sateen or other inferior weaves, or made with blends of cotton and other fibers, such as polyester.
What benefit (besides cost ) will I have if I buy your cotton sheets and not buy microfiber sheets.
We are unaware of any universally accepted definition of "microfiber". Generally speaking, the finer the yarn, the better the fabric. There is no finer 100% cotton yarn than the yarn we use in our 500 thread count PerfectCale® bed linens. For more information about bed sheet quality please go to our web site, www.thomasleeltd.com and click on "Buyers Guide" and/or 'The Thomas Lee Difference".
Do you offer monogramming on any of your sheets?
We do not offer monogramming at this time.
Do you make flannel sheets? We are looking for a high quality flannel sheet please?
We do not make flannel sheets.
Do you have any plans (please, please, please) to make full or twin sized sheets? I want them for every bed in the house!
We do plan to add full sizes in the summer of 2014. Twin sizes may be added too.
Where can I find the GSM weight of your towels?
Our towels have a 600 GSM weight
Do you have a catalog of Thomas Lee products?
We tend to think of our web site, which is very comprehensive, as our catalog; however, we do offer free swatches of our PerfectCale® fabric, which can be ordered on our web site at www.thomasleeltd.com.
Do you have fabric samples available?
We have free swatches of our 100% Pima cotton PerfectCale® fabric available on our web site at https://www.thomasleeltd.com/swatch.cfm. We do not offer samples of other fabrics used in our products.
There are sheets on the market with higher thread counts than yours. How can you claim your PerfectCale® sheets are the best?
Thomas Lee cotton sheets and bed linens are woven from the world's finest long-staple cotton, single ply yarn made using the highest quality traditional ring spun process, and woven 500 threads to the square inch. We believe there is no finer sheet available at any price.
What is the difference between your 100% pima cotton PerfectCale® sheets and your bamboo sheets?
PerfectCale® sheets are constructed with 500 100% pima cotton threads to each square inch of fabric, which yields what we believe is the perfect combination of softness and crispness (that is, no limp, raggy feeling) in a sheeting fabric. PerfectCale® sheets feel comfortably cool and luxurious against the skin. Bamboo sheets are constructed with 250 threads to the square inch, which together with the inherent nature of viscose from bamboo, yields a lighter weight, silkier fabric. Bamboo sheets drape well and will wrinkle less than 100% cotton sheets.
What is PerfectCale?
PerfectCale is a trademark Thomas Lee uses in connection with its finest quality sheets and pillowcases. The best long staple Pima cotton is ring spun to produce a fine, strong, highest quality single ply yarn, which is then woven 500 threads to the square inch to produce PerfectCale sheets and pillowcases. PerfectCale bed linens are offered only by Thomas Lee. For more information on what makes Thomas Lee PerfectCale the best, please click on "The Thomas Lee Difference".
How long will my PerfectCale® sheets last?
How long your sheets will last is a function of how they are used and cared for. Generally speaking, however, your PerfectCale® sheets will actually get softer and more and more comfortable with repeated laundering.
Where is the cotton grown that goes into your sheets?
The cotton used in Thomas Lee PerfectCale sheets is grown in the southwestern United States. We use only US grown long staple Pima cotton, the finest cotton available at any price.
Will Thomas Lee fitted sheets will fit my mattress?
The pockets on Thomas Lee PerfectCale® fitted sheets are 18 inches deep, which will accommodate most of today’s thick mattresses. Because of the high quality elastic that is sewn around the entire perimeter of our fitted sheet (not just in the pockets), they can accommodate a wide range of mattress thicknesses. Just be sure to tuck any surplus between the mattress and the box spring.
In what sizes do you offer your sheets?
We offer Thomas Lee 100% pima cotton PerfectCale® sheets in Queen, King and California King sizes. Starting mid-2014 we plan to offer full sizes and are considering twin sizes as well.

We offer bamboo sheets in twin sizes, as well as Queen, King and California King sizes.
In what colors do you offer your sheets?
We offer our 100% pima cotton PerfectCale® sheets only in white and ivory. We offer our bamboo sheets in several additional colors as shown on our website at http://www.thomasleeltd.com/bamboobedsheets.cfm.
How deep are the pockets on your fitted sheets?

In what country are Thomas Lee PerfectCale® bed linens manufactured?
Thomas Lee PerfectCale® bed linens are currently manufactured in India. They are made exclusively from Pima cotton grown in the southwestern United States.
What items are included in a sheet set? Can I make substitutions?
A sheet set consists of a flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases in the applicable size (queen or king). The queen set includes standard/queen size pillowcases and the king set included king pillowcases. The sets are packed at the factory and we cannot make substitutions within a set. We do offer separate flat sheets, fitted sheets, and pillowcase sets that can be ordered separately.
Do you offer sheets in full sizes?
Due to inadequate demand we do not offer full sizes.
Do you offer sheets in twin sizes?

Do Thomas Lee bed linens contain formaldehyde or other harsh chemicals?
No, Thomas Lee PerfectCale® bed linens are finished naturally, without the use of formaldehyde or other harsh chemicals.
Why doesn’t Thomas Lee offer more colors?
At Thomas Lee we are all about luxury, comfort, durability and value. We have found that there is very low demand for colors other than white and ivory, and in fact, we would prefer not to use the heavy dyes that are necessary to produce some color shades, since we feel they have the potential to adversely affect the comfort and durability of our PerfectCale® products. That said, we do offer additional fashion colors in our bamboo sheet collection.
Does Thomas Lee offer printed, “fashion” bedding products?
At Thomas Lee we are all about luxury, comfort, durability and value. We believe that the use of heavy print pastes and other chemicals used in manufacturing “fashion” bedding products would adversely affect the comfort and durability of our PerfectCale® products; thus we have elected not to enter that business.
Why don't you use Egyptian cotton?
Actually, the finest cotton in the world does not come from Egypt. The finest cotton in the world is “Pima” cotton which is grown in the southwestern United States. Cottons from Egypt can vary greatly in quality. At Thomas Lee we have found that the only cotton that consistently provides the quality we need for our PerfectCale bed linens is US Pima cotton.

Care Information

I just purchased my PerfectCale® bed linens. What should I do to ensure my maximum future enjoyment?
Congratulations on your wise purchase. Your Thomas Lee bed linens will exceed your highest expectations. While not absolutely necessary, we recommend laundering your bed linens before use, following our care instructions (see http://www.thomasleeltd.com/careinstructions.cfm). In particular be sure to dry your bed linens on permanent press setting and remove them promptly from the dryer, while smoothing and folding. The really neat thing about PerfectCale® bed products is that they actually get better with laundering. You will be amazed at their comfort after two or three launderings.
Can I home launder my down comforter?
We do not recommend home laundering a down comforter. We strongly suggest taking your down comforter to a professional laundry that actually has experience and the knowhow required to launder down products, which require special detergent specifically formulated for down. Standard laundry detergent will adhere to the down causing it to clump together and will ruin your comforter.

Once you have your comforter laundered, you should consider investing in a duvet cover to protect your comforter. A duvet cover, like the ones we offer, is far easier to launder and will greatly prolong the useful life of your down comforter.

Returns

What happens if I don’t like my Thomas Lee products? Can I return them?
Yes. Every product we sell is guaranteed to exceed your highest expectations. Our PerfectCale® 100% Pima cotton bedding products are unconditionally guaranteed for 90 days from the date of purchase. Use them, launder them (they actually get better with each laundering), and if you are dissatisfied for any reason you may return them and receive a full refund of the purchase price.
Our other products are unconditionally guaranteed for 30 days from the date of purchase.
How do I return my purchase?
We take The Thomas Lee Guarantee very seriously and pledge to provide excellent service in the event you wish to return one of our products. Because we use multiple distribution centers our return instructions differ depending upon the product purchased. Simply click on https://www.thomasleeltd.com/secure/returns.cfm to return any Thomas Lee product. Fill out the short return form and we will promptly respond with return instructions. In this way we are also better able to monitor the return process and ensure that it goes as smoothly as possible for our customers.
Do you pay shipping on returns?
We do not. In most cases our customers enjoy free or significantly reduced shipping charges when they order. If a product is returned, we do reimburse any shipping charges the customer paid when they ordered.
